Holidays and grieving

Author: Patricia A. Colucci "My Father's Straw Hat" Tate Publishing Available on Amazon.com A book on personal grieving resulting from the death of my father.

Grieving is a hard pill to swallow anytime of the year, but around the holidays, such as Christmas, it becomes a daily battle for me. Memories are all I have left to savor of my father and our life together. In my mind, I still picture him making our family home a wonderland at Christmas time. He had the exuberance of a hundred people around the holidays, meeting and greeting guests with a drink and great conversation; a zest for life that leaves me, to this day, overwhelmed. He made our holidays magical, with presents and laughter and the greatest love of family.  Now, I can only try and fill a little part of his shoes, with bringing as much joy to my own family, as he once did. My father died a horrible death, one in which no one man should suffer, but even in death, his eyes spoke to me of his unending love for me. I miss you, Dad, and will love you always.

personal grieving resulting from the death of my father.

Somewhere in the heavens, I know that I have an angel watching over me. I can honestly say that I had "the" best father in the world. He made life an absolute delight for me and my family.  I have a picture of my father on my kitchen counter, which I lightly touch each day.  In the picture, my father is toasting life with a glass of homemade wine. As I look at it each day, he reminds of, not only our wonderful times together, but that life should be a celebration, and should never to be taken for granted. If only he were here right now, I would tell him how much I love him but, somehow, I think he knows. I love you, Dad. xo

Grieving and the holidays

Over the holidays, thoughts of the beautiful times I spent with my family growing up, just take over my daydreams. I so wish that I could relive the magical Christmas mornings with my Mother and Father. My father died in 2008 and the holidays are very, very hard to swallow now. I have two beautiful, grown sons and they are my joy. I only wish that they could have experienced the wonder of the holidays that was my family. We never lived close to my family while my sons were growing up, as my husband's job took us all over the United States, but we tried to get back East as much as possible to visit with the family. I  regret that I didn't try harder to take them more often, but it is a regret that I will have to live with now. Only beautiful thoughts and tall tales linger now. I so miss the ritual that was Christmas...with my family here and the ones that have gone on before me. I truly can not wait until the season comes to an end this year, as reality is not as wonderful as it once was. The fact remains that time marches on, things change, and nothing stands still...except for my aching heart. I love you, Dad. xoxo

Book on grieving

"My Father's Straw Hat" Tate Publishing   Author: Patricia A. Colucci

This is my story of the grief I suffered after the death of my father. It is not a book that will solve the mystery of grief, as there will never be one, but it is a book that I wrote from my heart. I miss my father everyday and I ache to see him again. I journaled my grieving process for one year and put it into book form, to see if I could help others with their pain. I hope that you will consider giving it as a gift this Christmas  to someone who is suffering through an agonizing loss. It is a book to comfort someone and to let them know that they are not alone in their grieving.
Thank-you for listening.   PAC

Grief and the Holidays.

This is, by far, the hardest time of the year for me. My father died only two years ago and it seems like  just yesterday that we were planning the holiday surprises. Even as I write this, I can not believe that my father is no longer with me. He was my inspiration; my light; my confidant; my friend. My heart is aching to see him again, just to talk and laugh out loud with him, as in past years.
If you have lost a loved one, a parent or someone close, please read my book on the loss of my father.
"My Father's Straw Hat" Tate Publishing  Author: Patricia A. Colucci
available on Amazon.com
It is a wonderful book to give to someone who is grieving this holiday season, as it is a book written from the heart. It does not solve the mystery of grief; it merely explains mine as I went through it for the first year after my father's death.
Thank-you for listening.

Missing my Father today

As always, I am recalling something my father did that changed my life or made me smile. Today is certainly no acception. When I was a little girl, my father would take me on long tractor rides around our grounds. We had such a beautiful property and people would stop by, from miles around, just to see my dad's handywork. If the onlookers had small children, my dad would take them along also, and make the childrens' day! He was such a thoughtful, caring person, who loved children dearly. I am remembering his glistening smile against the background  of cross-bred roses in our backyard. I miss you so much Dad; my heart aches to hold you again. Your loving Daughter.

Winter is closing in

Today, as winter is closing in on my Midwest town, I am reminded, once again, of how much I hate the darkening days, the cold, and most importantly, the holidays without my father. It was such a joy to have him with us for  the holidays. He made our Christmases the most perfect time of the year. He would get up on Christmas Eve morn, have his coffee, and set out on his annual shopping extravaganza that lasted until the stores closed. We all knew that something wonderful would await us on Christmas morning. What an amazing man he was; the void in my life, from his passing, can never be filled. I have tried to pass on his good heart by living as he did. By doing so, I keep his legacy alive and well, not just for my family, but for me.

[grief] hurts today

There are days when grief simply hurts. Today is one of those days. You can't do anything about it; You can't fight it; you can't reach out and talk. It just simply hurts. I really hate when I get this hollow feeling, a hole so deep in my chest, that it goes straight through me. I want to see my father today. The urge is so strong and painful. We had the best conversations and laughs; he taught me to live. Grief has been whittling away at my life's breath. I miss you so much today, Dad.  I love you always.

Grieving over my father

On rainy days, I am reminded of my father's funeral. The rain was fierce that day, and yet, all I could feel was tremendous pain and agony in my heart. It was such an awful day; a day of silence; a day of recollection; a day of fear; a day of longing; a day that marked a grieving period that has lasted over two years now. I am at a loss as to when it ends; it does not. It clouds my thoughts and saddens my heart daily. It has a way of strangling your insides; it takes your breath away.

I love you, Dad, and wish that we had been able to spend more time together before you died. You are forever a part of me.

Grief comes in all forms today.

As I mourn the death of my father each day, I am now mourning a different kind of loss. My son, my first born, has moved to Alaska and is now out of hugging distance. I know that he had to go, to pursue his career, but the void is stifling. It is a new emotion for me. It is a pain that is deep and wide. It is a hollow feeling, not being able to touch your child, and it makes me angry, too. Life is a series of grief ridden events, followed by small joys and hopes. I wish you well my son and I love you dearly. Mom.

My #son has left for Alaska

I am so full of joy and sorrow at the same time, that I don't know how to feel today. My #son #left on Labor Day, to pursue his new career, and is heading for Alaska. I am so #heartbroken. He and I have been through so much together and now a part of me has been taken away. The days of hopping in a car and going to visit are over. I can't hug him and that makes me overwhelmingly sad. I am charting his journey and praying for him each step of the way. I love you and miss you, Joe.
I wish my #father was here to tell him how proud I am of my #son. My father was the strength of our family and I miss his wisdom everyday. Why does life throw so many blows at once? At least let us breath a little, would you.

Loss of my father

My mother and sister came to visit me from Philadelphia last week. It is the first time in my life, and my mother's, that my mother was traveling here without my father. It was such an eeire feeling to see them arrive and my father absent from the group. I pictured him walking up to my front door, escorting my mother as always, but that was not going to be. Grief is so unpredictable. I was overwhelmed with sadness and overjoyed all at the same time; I just couldn't show it. I miss my family so much and my father's absence in my life is daunting. The grief rages on.

#grief don't be fooled you never stop grieving

Today was bizzare for me. I actually had to rethink my father's funeral to make sure it really happened. Over two years and I am still trying to convince myself that it may be a dream. He is gone and I know it...I just don't want it to be so. I have so much to tell him and he isn't with me. The pain is simply unbearable sometimes. In my book, I wrote a long diary, for a full year, and now that, too, seems unreal. The world keeps turning, but which way?

Summer at the Jersey Shore

Every year, for 16+years, My family spent the last two weeks of August "Down at the Shore"! The memories could fill a book but some of the best times were spent with my father, after all of the people had left the beach, we would sit in the vacated lifeguard stand and watch the great ships cross the Atlantic. Our conversations were so close and loving..I will never forget you Dad. I love you today and always. I wish you were still with us.

I am mad today

Life has thrown me some hard blows..some deserved but most not. I am so missing my Dad today and wish that I could carry on a conversation with him and his everpresent wisdom. He is gone from my life now and the void is unbearable.

Looking for relief from the world.

The world and everyone in it is making me sick today. I am sick of the greed that has spawned a new breed of hateful people. I don't like looking at people anymore as I don't see them in the same light as I did even five years ago. I will see that my family is taken care of but the rest of you can fend for yourselves. What have you done for me lately? I miss you, Dad.

Dad...I thought that it would be easier to be without you on Father's Day this year, but, the grieving was worse and I miss you so much that I ache inside. GRIEF EACH DAY...A NEW SORROW.

I wish that I could just go on and keep my father's death in the back of my heart and let it rest. Each day seems to be worse instead of better. We shared so much that it is literally impossible to stop grieving. Yes, it may change in its intensity, but never in its persistence.

Grieving over my father

Does grieving the loss of a parent, namely my father, ever stop? I got through Memorial Day, feeling so very helpless and sad, missing my father, a wonderful man and prisoner of WWII Germany. I don't know if I shall ever go back to my normal life, now that he is gone, and how can I. I wrote a book on the subject of grief, in 2009, in hopes of relieving my own, however it remains like the plague. "My Father's Straw Hat" published by Tate Publishing. Please write to me or talk to me about your grieving process. I would love to hear from you. Trish.

Grieving goes on

Today is very quiet and the days have become quite warm. I love the warmth and the springtime, but it so reminds me of my father and his wonderful gardens. I lost my father in January of 2008 and the grief has been overwhelming at times. He was such a presence in my life and that link of love and conversation is now gone. It is true that you do not realize a person's worth until after they leave you. I just took for granted that my father would always "be there" no matter what. I find myself looking for that link through other sources and there are none. How sad is that. I am a grown woman with a husband and two grown sons, whom I love dearly, but the bond I had with my father is almost unexplainable. The days are warm but my heart is cold.

Have you lost a Father or loved one?

Hi..I recently published a book on the grief I suffered, after losing my father, and would like to hear from other people who have lost their father, mother, or someone very close to them. I am very interested to chat with people regarding their personal grieving. My book is a year long diary that I kept as I grieved. It is very personal as well as a bit tearful, but it may help others who are grieving, and let them understand that they are not alone. "My Father's Straw Hat" is the title and it is through Tate Publishing, if you want to take a look, but please talk to me about your own personal experiences. Thank-you so much.
